Mobile Communications - Four More Makers Win Chinese Production Licenses
June 03, 2005
China's National Development and Reform Commission has agreed to issue handset production licenses to Inventec Appliances, BenQ, Skyworth, and Gionee Communication. The combined annual production capacity of these four makers is expected to be 14 million units.

In addition to gaining a license to produce GSM handsets, Inventec Appliance also got the nod to produce TD-SCDMA phones. Inventec runs production sites in both Nanjing and Shanghai. Its branded OKWAP phones have enjoyed rapid volume growth in China following the launch of a marketing campaign, spearheaded by all-girl music group, S.H.E.
